January isn't my favorite month because the landscape is resting and not much is happening. But I did find some color today when I encountered a Hamamelis (Witch hazel) shrub. It's a cross between Chinese and Japanese Hamamelis thus the "x" in its botanical name, which refers to hybrids. Hamamelis x intermedia.

Some people describe the flowers as spider-like but I hate spiders; personally, the flowers remind me of confetti. I never get tired of photographing Hamamelis. It has very playful flowers and I welcome the color in a resting, winter landscape.
